News Article : A new season a new site!
Published: 01/03/2014 by : Simon Morillas

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us....

Dickens himself must have had Winter Testing 2014 on his mind when he penned those very words in 1859, indeed, Winter Testing has been pretty horrible for all involved.

But, good news RunThatTrackers, (and welcome to the start of the 2014 RunThatTrack season) now that all that Winter Testing nonsense is out of the way we can start to look forward to the first race of the season, Australia. Australia usually means great weather (except last year where it monsooned), friendly people, open air restaurants, a gentle circuit and the first Group Run of 2014!

As the 2014 F1 season introduces a major shakeup of the rules and technical regulations, here at the RunThatTrack Technology Centre we've taken these changes to heart and spent the winter building a whole new site. When I say new, I really mean it, the 2014 site is not a mere buffing of the paintwork or making a minor revision to the front wing, it's completely new from the ground up, as a result it's posed a few challenges, but I'm sure that we should have those ironed out by some point next week ready for the new site launch....

The 2014 RunThatTrack site sees some new features alongside the old faithfuls.  One of the new features that I'm especially fond of is the new "Pointless Chart" feature. What's that I hear you say? Simple, we take some F1 running data and make a chart. It's F1 data on a chart so it must be interesting right? Wrong, this is RunThatTrack, so I think we'll start with the first "Pointless Chart" showing Laps Run vs. First Initial of Surname.

On a more serious note, one thing that's not new for 2014 is the continued support of UBS. Once again I am extremely proud and pleased to say that for the 4th year running, with the continued and generous support of UBS, RunThatTrack will again be supporting Make–A-Wish®. Over the past 3 years, your laps have raised over $890,000 for Make-A-Wish, and this year we have the magic $1 million milestone in reach! I know we have a lot of fun running the tracks and enjoy the friendly rivalry and inter team competition, but when you stop and think about how much each person and team has raised for the worthwhile Make-A-Wish cause, I think we can all be proud.

For 2014, the UBS supported donation levels have been simplified, all weekends are now worth $100 per event for each runner (if you submit a lap @ so in theory you each have the ability to add up to $1900 to the total raised over the course of the season, all you need to do is run a lap and remember to submit it on the site... easy.  Now, with the $1 million milestone donation total to Make-A-Wish well within reach, our friends at UBS have been looking at new ways to encourage you to register your laps and make every lap count, which nicely brings us to another new feature of the site for 2014. As you register the laps you clock up during the season, as well as helping us to get ever nearer to the $1 million milestone, you could also unlock a new UBS Every Lap Counts virtual award as you reach and surpass a new individual milestone, that's right folks, run some laps and get some virtual goodies! To find out more make sure you register your first lap of the year!

Right, back to Australia. It's the first race, so long nights, jetlag, restaurants along the waterfront and overzealous marshals are the norm and provide a variety of excuses for those whose lap times seem to have ummm "dropped off" since the end of last season. Nevertheless, once again we are boldly pushing ahead with the first Group Run of the season, think of it as a great way to get back into the swing of things, restart the inter team rivalry and for those of you that have managed to get some sleep during the week, a nice gentle lap around the circuit in the setting sun before heading off for dinner and a few well deserved beers.

Next week I will send out a follow-up email with all the Group Run details, along with some more information about the site for 2014 (including details on how you can each update your team details etc). So, until them, enjoy the rest of the week, don't forget to pack the trainers, get some sleep on the plane and we will see you in Melbourne.....
