News Article : The Austin Group Run
Published: 27/10/2014 by : Simon Morillas

Hello all, well what a difference a few weeks make. After the events in Japan and the new race in Sochi, a short stint at home is just what everybody needed, a bit of time with the family to relax and take stock before the final three races of the season. But as we arrive in the United States it’s difficult to know what to write. Austin is a great town and a fabulous venue, but with our friends from Marussia and Caterham missing this weekend it feels as though our little F1 world just got a lot smaller...

Caterham and Marussia's absence will be felt within our RunThatTrack community too. Great supporters of the programme since its inception, both teams feature prominently at the top of the RunThatTrack leaderboards and as we approach the final three races it's a great shame that they won't be here to build on their achievements. We’ll have to wait until after the weekend to see exactly how the various championships play out, but it looks like several battles that may well have been a foregone conclusion are now open for the challenge.

It’s been a few races since the last Group Run, so it’s a great pleasure to announce that there will be one in Austin. By now you all know the drill, we’ll get together on the Start/Finish line at 5:30pm (just after parc fermé starts) for a 5:45pm start and a mad dash up that big hill to Turn One. The early start makes this Group Run the perfect way to burn a few calories and unwind before leaving the track and hitting the steak and beers that make a night in Austin complete. As usual our organising team from UBS and JMI will be trackside to get the Group Run underway and although the FIA are yet to impose the “three-car” rule on each team to make up the numbers, it would be great if you could drag your colleagues along (first-time runners are always welcome) to help bolster the field and keep the UBS-supported donation total ticking over. We have raised $223,400 so far this year, which is amazing, but I think we can hit $250k before the season ends, so the more runners the merrier (and don’t forget to tell them to register the lap for it to count)!

So, that’s about it. I’m sure as always I have forgotten something, but with that it's just left for me to say the customary Group Run signoff of "It does not matter if you win or lose, it's just the taking part that matters, so come on down to the Start/Finish line on Saturday night, have some fun and help raise the donation total for the Make-A-Wish Foundation". Until then enjoy being back in the paddock and look forward to Saturday night.

Cheers,

Simon Morillas
